PROJECT: Oblique Diamond Drum

Oblique Engineering has developed the grease drum (GD400) for diamond recovery that has a high level of automation and security and the grease belt (GB400) that has a slightly lower level of automation and security. The latest technology in chillers and heating circuitry has been used in the GD400 and the GB400 that has enabled the design of these machines to be compact. The power consumption of these units is also significantly less than that of the older technology making these units considerably more economical to run.

Grease technology is a proven technology to use for the recovery of diamonds. In the last 20 years, X-ray technology has taken the 'stage' as the number one method to recover diamonds and as such, research on improving diamond recovery technology has concentrated on X-ray methods. In the last five years, the shortcomings of X-ray technology have become more apparent and their inefficiencies documented. In general, in order to maximise on diamond recovery, one ideally requires a combination of diamond recovery technologies including grease recovery.
